If you’re in the market for a new thriller, you may want to check out Anek. It stars Ayushmann Khurrana as undercover agent Joshua, whose job it is to monitor the activity of separatist groups in the North East of India. With a conflict brewing in the region, the government is trying to prepare for peace talks with the rebels. In order to make peace with these groups, Joshua must control an active separatist group, Johnson, with both his mind and heart.
Anek has received good reviews from critics. However, Bollywood films have sunk in the month of May 2022. Even though Bollywood’s box-office collection has decreased significantly, new films are gradually shining the name of the film industry.
Recent releases like Bhulaiyaa 2 and Anek have done a solid job. We’ll try to find out if the movies will live up to the high expectations, but until then, it’s worth checking out Anek.
The cast is a strong point. Andrea Raimond plays a character whose origins make her vulnerable to discrimination. But her storyline is not as strong as it could be. Other actors in the film, such as Manoj Pahwa, Kumud Mishra, Loitongbam Dorendra, and Anubhav Sinha, are not quite as well developed as Andrea Raimond. The film also scores high points for its excellent cinematography, especially during the surgical strike sequence.
Anek is a rare commercial film that does not condemn guerrilla fighters as terrorists. Instead, it depicts violence as an inevitable consequence of subjugation and intolerance. While the film is didactic in tone, it injects political integrity into a cinematic landscape that otherwise lacks backbone.
Ayushmann Khurrana’s performance is particularly heartwarming. If you’re looking for a new movie to watch in theaters this May, we recommend Anek. We’re sure you won’t regret your decision.
While Ayushmann Khurrana is one of the stars of the film, he’s not in his most natural element. As the hapless husband, he ends up using a young girl for his own gain. In the process, he becomes a preachy rebel. So you should be able to handle some of the film’s twists and turns. Otherwise, Anek is not worth watching.
Anek is a political drama set against a geopolitical backdrop in Northeast India. It’s a good watch for young viewers, but may not be for those who are not into political drama or political comedy.
However, it is not a movie for those who love to watch south movies, as this will have a very bland feel. This review does not contain spoilers, but it is worth reading. So, what can you expect from Anek?

It’s an uphill battle to even highlight the complex nature & deep rooted conflicts of an unnamed state in this film (generalisation of NE is jarring)
The film seems confused between educating/preaching & focussing on its main storyline!
