When it comes to Hindi movies, there’s no greater entertainment than the Bollywood blockbuster Udta Punjab. The performances by Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and Diljit Dosanjh are as entertaining as they are diverse. The film is a triumph over censorship and audiences alike. Here are some of the Udta Punjab movie’s best scenes. So, what’s the verdict?
Shahid Kapoor
Alia Bhatt steals the show in Shahid Kapoor’s latest film, ‘Udta Punjab.’ Her Bihari accent is flawless, and her range of emotions is breathtaking. Meanwhile, Shahid Kapoor ignites the screen with his sheer madness as the obnoxious Tommy Singh. The film’s ensemble cast is equally impressive, including Satish Kaushik, Manav Vij, and Prabhjyat Singh.
A few scenes in the movie skew the film’s gender bias, and a mediocre script. The film’s start is riveting, but it loses steam once it enters the fictional second half. And while the film doesn’t leave its audience high, it does leave you begging for more. In other words, you won’t find any surprises here.
Alia Bhatt
This Bollywood film stars Alia Bhatt as a nameless Bihari girl who meets a corrupt cop. The cop, Sartaj Singh, takes a cut from the local drug trade and is inspired by his brother’s tragic death from the drug. He decides to fight back by exposing the nexus between the local drug trade and the corrupt politicians. The film is also a love story. Alia Bhatt is very good as the girl who sells drugs to the driller.
In this movie, the heroine is worth Rs.3 crore. This is quite a sum. Alia Bhatt’s character is pathetic and spirals down a primrose path. The movie is not a ‘drug movie’ per se, but it does show the dark side of drug use in India. This movie is a sincere attempt to portray the real world of the drug trade, which is often portrayed as a glitzy and glamorous lifestyle. The music by Amit Trivedi compliments the entire film.
Kareena Kapoor Khan
A rumbling drug war between the police and drug lords forms the crux of Udta Punjab, a new film directed by Kareena Kapoor Khan. The cop, Sartaj Singh, is determined to eliminate the drug mafia and save his family from a dangerous drug deal. However, the plot is thin and the actors’ performances are lacking. Kareena Kapoor Khan, as the heroin addict Pinky, is an excellent choice as the antagonist.
The movie features three threads: a drug lord played by Shahid Kapoor; a young peasant turned artiste; and a doctor who gets involved in the drug trade. While the other two arcs are equally compelling, Kareena Kapoor Khan has the most significant role, focusing on the drug lord who is a strong female character.
Diljit Dosanjh
Diljit Dosanjh’s film, “Udta Punjab”, is a gritty and provocative tale about the drug nexus in Punjab, India. Set in the early 90s, the movie has a strong sense of reality, and despite its flaws, it’s worth seeing for the performances alone. Whether you agree with the message or not, you’ll find yourself glued to the screen.
The film’s plot revolves around a police officer’s quest to track down his younger brother, who is a drug addict. This task is complicated by the fact that Diljit does not know that his brother is a drug addict. Meanwhile, his stoic partner, Dr. Preet Sahani, leads a crackdown on drug trafficking.
