Sun Radio Interferometer Space Experiment(SunRISE) Mission

A mission to study causes of Giant Solar Particles Storm has been initiated by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration(NASA).

About SunRISE Mission

The new mission aims to study how the Sun generates and releases giant space weather storms commonly known as solar particle storms.

The Information gathered from the mission will help in improving understanding of how the solar system works.

The findings of the mission will ultimately help in protecting astronauts travelling to the Moon and Mars by providing them information about how the Sun’s radiation affects the space environment they must travel through.

The SunRISE mission is an array of six CubeSats operating as one very large radio telescope.

The CubeSats is a space research satellite made up of 10cm X 10cm X 10cm cubic units.

Solar Particles Storm

The radiations from the surface of the Sun that consist of particles like protons which affect the space weather are called Solar Particle Storms.

The Solar Particle Storms have the ability to penetrate the earth’s magnetosphere and can cause geomagnetic storms on earth.

The Solar particle Storms can also cause malfunctioning of space stations and spacecraft.

These storms can have a range of harmful effects on the health of astronauts including vomiting, nausea, and change in blood chemistry.
